Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa, often referred to simply as Vyasa, is a seminal figure in Indian history and literature. He is traditionally credited as the author of the Mahabharata, one of the longest epic poems in the world. Son of the sage Parashara and Satyavati, Vyasa is also celebrated for compiling the Vedas and authoring the eighteen Puranas, monumental texts of Hindu tradition. Revered as an avatar of the god Vishnu, Vyasa's contributions have profoundly shaped Hindu culture and spirituality.
