J.M. Barrie, born on May 9, 1860, in Kirriemuir, Scotland, was a renowned Scottish novelist and playwright, best known for creating the timeless character Peter Pan. Educated at the University of Edinburgh, Barrie began his literary career writing for newspapers and eventually progressing to novels and plays. His friendship with the Llewelyn Davies family inspired the enchanting world of Neverland, first introduced to audiences in his 1904 play "Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up." Barrie received multiple honors, including the Order of Merit in 1922, and his works continue to captivate audiences worldwide. He passed away in 1937.
