E.B. Sledge

Eugene Bondurant Sledge was an American author and marine veteran renowned for his classic memoir, "With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa," which provides a profound and gritty account of his experiences in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Born on November 4, 1923, in Mobile, Alabama, Sledge enlisted in the Marine Corps and served with the 1st Marine Division. His vivid descriptions and honest portrayal of combat have made his work an essential read on the realities of war. After the war, Sledge pursued a career in academia, becoming a respected professor of biology at the University of Montevallo.
