Mervyn Peake (1911–1968) was an esteemed British writer, artist, poet, and illustrator, best known for his unique blend of fantasy and gothic romance. Born in China, he moved to England in his childhood, where he later attended the Royal Academy of Art. Peake's most acclaimed work is the Gormenghast series, an imaginative trilogy exploring themes of tradition and decay. Beyond his novels, he gained recognition as an illustrator, providing artwork for classics by Lewis Carroll and the Brothers Grimm.
