Kevin Powers is an acclaimed American author and poet, best known for his debut novel, "The Yellow Birds," which draws from his experiences as a soldier in the Iraq War. Born in Richmond, Virginia, in 1980, Powers enlisted in the United States Army at 17 and served as a machine gunner in Mosul and Tal Afar. His work received critical praise, winning the 2013 PEN/Hemingway Award and the Guardian First Book Award. Powers holds an MFA in poetry from the Michener Center at the University of Texas at Austin. He continues to write, exploring themes of war, memory, and human resilience.
