Etty Hillesum (1914–1943) was a Dutch Jewish author and diarist whose writings provide a poignant insight into her inner life and the atrocities of World War II. Born in Middelburg, Netherlands, she pursued studies in law and Slavic languages. During the Nazi occupation, Hillesum worked at the Jewish Council in Amsterdam, where she began her diaries, offering profound reflections on faith, love, and human suffering. Despite the horrors surrounding her, Hillesum maintained a deep spiritual resilience and empathy. She was eventually deported to Auschwitz, where she perished. Her diaries, published posthumously, continue to inspire readers worldwide with their profound humanity.
