Joseph Campbell

Joseph Campbell (1904–1987) was a renowned American mythologist, writer, and lecturer, whose work profoundly influenced the fields of comparative mythology and comparative religion. Best known for his theory of the monomyth, or "The Hero's Journey," Campbell published numerous seminal works including *The Hero with a Thousand Faces* which explored common patterns in the mythology and narratives across diverse cultures. He taught literature at Sarah Lawrence College for 38 years, and his expertise extended to analyzing the psychological and cultural significance of human myths.
