Naguib Mahfouz was a distinguished Egyptian writer, born in Cairo in 1911. He gained international acclaim for his profound and richly textured novels, which delve deeply into the cultural and social fabric of Egypt. Mahfouz’s literary career, spanning over seven decades, included more than 30 novels, numerous short stories, and screenplays. He is best known for his Cairo Trilogy, which vividly portrays the lives of Egyptians across generations. In 1988, he became the first Arab writer to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, solidifying his legacy as a towering figure in world literature. Mahfouz passed away in 2006, leaving an indelible mark on the literary world.
