Born in Brooklyn in 1925, he graduated from Harvard and served in the French Army. Karnow began his journalism career covering Asia for Time magazine, later contributing to The Washington Post and NBC News. His seminal book, "Vietnam: A History," is considered a definitive account of the conflict. He received the Pulitzer Prize for History for his work "In Our Image: America's Empire in the Philippines." Stanley Karnow passed away in 2013, leaving a legacy of insightful historical narratives.
