Lopez Lomong is a South Sudanese-American track and field athlete and author. Born in 1985, he overcame tremendous adversity after being kidnapped by rebels at the age of six during the Sudanese Civil War. Lomong later escaped, spending a decade in a Kenyan refugee camp before being adopted by an American family. He became a U.S. citizen and went on to represent the United States in two Olympic Games, 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London. Besides his athletic achievements, Lomong is known for his inspirational memoir, "Running for My Life," which chronicles his journey from war-torn Sudan to Olympic glory.
