About

Mo Yan is a celebrated Chinese novelist known for his vivid storytelling and unique narrative style, which often blends folklore, history, and realism. Born in 1955 in Gaomi, Shandong Province, Mo Yan—whose real name is Guan Moye—grew up during China's Cultural Revolution, deeply influencing his literary perspective. He adopted the pen name "Mo Yan," meaning "Don't Speak," as a subtle protest during times of censorship. His most acclaimed work, "Red Sorghum," propelled him to international fame and was adapted into a successful film. In 2012, Mo Yan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, recognizing his profound contributions to world literature.
