Alan Le May was an American novelist and screenwriter who became one of the most celebrated authors of Western fiction. Born in Indiana in 1899, he grew up immersed in frontier stories and later studied at the University of Chicago. Le May wrote numerous novels and short stories, but achieved his greatest fame with "The Searchers" (1954), which became the basis for John Ford's iconic 1956 film starring John Wayne. His work was known for its psychological depth and authentic portrayal of the American West. Le May also wrote screenplays for Hollywood, contributing to both literature and cinema. He died in 1964.
