John Howard Griffin (1920-1980) was an American author and social activist renowned for his work in race relations. Born in Dallas, Texas, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II before embarking on a career as a writer and journalist. Griffin is best known for his seminal book, "Black Like Me" (1961), where he chronicled his experiences of racial segregation after darkening his skin to live as a Black man in the Deep South. The book became pivotal in the American Civil Rights Movement. Griffin continued to advocate for equality and human rights until his death.
