Clare Cavenagh

Clare Cavenagh is a distinguished American scholar, translator, and literary critic celebrated for her work in Polish and Russian literature. She is a professor at Northwestern University, where she has dedicated her career to bringing Eastern European poetry and prose to English-speaking audiences. Cavenagh is perhaps best known for her acclaimed translations of the Nobel Prize-winning Polish poet Wisława Szymborska, produced in collaboration with Stanisław Barańczak. Her translation of Szymborska's "Poems New and Collected" earned widespread praise. She is also the author of "Lyric Poetry and Modern Politics," a groundbreaking study of Russian and Polish literary culture.
