Clare Cavenagh is a distinguished American scholar, translator, and literary critic celebrated for her work in Polish and Russian literature. She is a professor at Northwestern University, where she has dedicated her career to bringing Eastern European poetry and prose to English-speaking audiences. Cavenagh is perhaps best known for her acclaimed translations of the Nobel Prize-winning Polish poet Wisława Szymborska, produced in collaboration with Stanisław Barańczak.
