Edward W. Said was a prominent Palestinian-American scholar, literary critic, and public intellectual, known for his influential works on post-colonial studies and his advocacy for Palestinian rights. Born in Jerusalem in 1935 and educated at Princeton and Harvard, he was a professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University for four decades. Said's seminal book, "Orientalism" (1978), revolutionized the understanding of Western perceptions of the East, challenging cultural stereotypes and colonial narratives. He authored numerous other significant works including "Culture and Imperialism" and "The Question of Palestine." Said was a passionate critic of cultural imperialism and a tireless advocate for justice and human rights.
