About

Max Brod (1884–1968) was a Czech-born, German-speaking writer, critic, and composer, renowned for his pivotal role in promoting the work of his friend, Franz Kafka. Born in Prague, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Brod was a prolific author, penning numerous novels, plays, and essays. He is best remembered for preserving and publishing Kafka's writings posthumously, despite Kafka's wishes for them to be destroyed. Brod's dedication to carrying forth Kafka's legacy significantly influenced 20th-century literature. Besides his literary endeavors, he was an accomplished composer and a prominent figure in the Zionist movement. His contributions remain invaluable to literary history.
