Pablo Neruda, born Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto in 1904, was a Chilean poet renowned for his passionate, deeply evocative works. Celebrated as one of the 20th century's greatest poets, Neruda's career spanned surrealistic poetry, historical epics, and overtly political manifestos. His most famous collections include "Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair" and "Canto General." A devoted diplomat and politician, he served as a senator and was an outspoken member of the Communist Party. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1971, Neruda's rich imagery and profound themes continue to captivate readers worldwide. He passed away in 1973.
