About

C.S. Forester, born Cecil Louis Troughton Smith in 1899, was an acclaimed British novelist and screenwriter best known for his Horatio Hornblower series. His seafaring novels, rich in historical detail, follow the daring exploits of a Royal Navy officer during the Napoleonic Wars. Forester's compelling storytelling and keen insights into human nature also shine in his other works, including "The African Queen," later adapted into a successful film. Educated at Dulwich College, he initially studied medicine before committing to writing. Over his prolific career, Forester crafted tales of adventure, courage, and the complexities of traditional naval life.
