Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus, commonly known as Suetonius, was a prominent Roman historian and biographer of the early 2nd century AD. Born around 69/70 AD, Suetonius is best known for his work "De Vita Caesarum" or "The Twelve Caesars," which chronicles the lives of the first twelve Roman rulers from Julius Caesar to Domitian. His richly detailed accounts offer invaluable insights into the political, social, and cultural milieu of ancient Rome. Suetonius held various positions in the Roman civil and literary administrations, benefitting from close associations with influential figures such as Emperor Hadrian. His writings remain a crucial source for classical historians.
