John Knowles was an American novelist best known for his critically acclaimed novel, "A Separate Peace," published in 1959. Born on September 16, 1926, in Fairmont, West Virginia, Knowles attended Phillips Exeter Academy, an experience that greatly influenced his writing. He later graduated from Yale University. Much of his work explores themes of adolescence, friendship, and the loss of innocence. Knowles' storytelling style often reflects the turbulence of World War II and its impact on American youth. Although "A Separate Peace" remains his most celebrated work, he published several other novels and short stories throughout his career. Knowles passed away in 2001.
