The dismembered body of a retired prosecutor for the State of California is found in his home. But despite the brutality of the act, what shocks Detective Robert Hunter of the Los Angeles Robbery Homicide Division the most is the calling card the killer left behind.
The killer used the victim's body parts to create a grotesque, bloody sculpture. There's no doubt that there's a hidden meaning to it, but the more the police look at it, the less they understand it. The only thing they know is that the killer is trying to communicate. But why? Is he sending out a message, a clue, or simply toying with the police?
As the investigation progresses, a new body is found, together with a new sculpture and a new clue. But there's no apparent link between the victims, and the investigation leads nowhere.
Hunter is thrown onto an unstoppable rollercoaster of evil, where he and his partner Garcia have to piece together a jigsaw of clues, and stop the most sadistic killer they have ever encountered before he strikes again.
