George Orwell, born Eric Arthur Blair in 1903 in British India, was a prolific English novelist, essayist, and critic, renowned for his keen insights into social injustice, totalitarianism, and the frailties of human nature. Educated at Eton, Orwell explored various professions, including serving as a colonial police officer in Burma and experiencing poverty in London and Paris. His profound works, such as "Animal Farm" and "1984," remain seminal critiques of authoritarian regimes and champion democratic socialism. Orwell's incisive, lucid prose and commitment to truth, justice, and human dignity have made him a pivotal figure in 20th-century literature. He died in 1950.
