Maigret à New York

Peacefully retired in Meung-sur-Loire, Inspector Maigret is persuaded by a very young man, Jean Maura, to accompany him to New York. Maura is worried about his father, a businessman of French origin, who seems beset by serious troubles.
Maigret will find himself embroiled in a shadowy case. The young Maura disappears inexplicably. Many years earlier, Maura senior had landed in New York with a friend, Daumale, a violinist by trade. What drove them apart? What became of the child born to Jessie, then Maura’s mistress? Could a heavy secret explain why the businessman is the victim of blackmail?
The case will be solved, but the inspector, on the ship taking him back to France, will wonder what exactly he had gone to do in the American metropolis, which had hardly excited him...
